AREA ORGANIZATIONS RECEIVE DRUG-FREE COMMUNITY GRANTS

Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that two local organizations have received Drug-Free Communities Program grants through the Office of National Drug Control Policy.  The funds will be used for community-based anti-drug efforts.

Recipients include:

  • $99,281 - Alton Community Unit School District #11, lead agency for the Alton Youth Development Strategy Partnership.  This is a continuation of a grant it received last year.
  • $100,000 - Tri-Cities Drug Free Communities Coalition, serving Granite City, Madison and Venice. This is one of 107 new grants awarded nationwide.

"Drug abuse has serious consequences, for communities as well as individuals and families," said Costello, a former law enforcement official.  "These funds will target prevention and treatment strategies in the Alton area to combat the problems associated with drugs."
