COSTELLO SECURES FUNDS FOR LOCAL POLICE DEPARTMENTS

Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that he has secured funding for two local police departments as part of the House Commerce-Justice-Science Appropriations bill for fiscal year 2009. The legislation will next be considered by the full House of Representatives.

The projects include:

  • $100,000 – Brooklyn Police Department. Funds will be used to purchase booking software, a record management system, a live fingerprinting system and digital cameras.
  • $100,000 – Bethalto Police Department. Funds will be used to purchase and install an 800 MHz radio system to ensure reliable radio communications equipment for first responders.

“This legislation contains important funding increases for domestic priorities, such as law enforcement,” said Costello, a former police officer. “These resources will help our first responders be better prepared to do their jobs. They put their lives on the line every day and this dedication deserves our full support. I will continue to work with local law enforcement on strategies to keep our communities safe.”
