ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION RECEIVES TRANSPORTATION GRANT FOR SOUTHERN ILLINOIS COUNTIES

Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has been awarded a $344,000 grant through the Federal Highway Administration of the U.S. Department of Transportation. The funds are to be used for advance warning signs, chevrons and rumble strips in Jackson, Franklin, Randolph and Williamson counties. The grant program, Rural Curve Improvement Strategy on County and Township Highways is intended to heighten awareness and interest in rural safety issues and promote the benefits of rural safety countermeasures which can reduce rural crashes and fatalities.

“These funds will help improve the safety of drivers and passengers on our rural roads,” said Costello. “A critical component of our transportation system is the safety of those traveling our roadways and I will continue to support these important projects.”
