Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that 70 acres of wetlands in Jackson County will be enhanced with a $23,750 grant through the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service of the U.S. Department of the Interior. Consol Energy owns the land and is responsible for maintenance of the project. The National Wild Turkey Federation is the grant recipient and will monitor the project in conjunction with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
"This project highlights the benefits of cooperative land management," said Costello. "This area has become a haven for a variety of birds and further adds to the beauty of Southern Illinois."
