Representative Miller Congratulates Senator Kennedy On Taking Reins Of Senate Labor & Education Committee

Thursday, November 16, 2006

WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. Rep. George Miller (D-CA), the senior Democrat on the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, today congratulated Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) on his appointment earlier this week as Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee. Miller applauded the goals for the Committee that Kennedy outlined today in a speech on the floor of the Senate. Miller released the following statement today:

“For 44 years in the Senate, Ted Kennedy has fought for the working families of our country, and I greatly admire him and his career. It is wonderful news for America’s children, workers, and families that he will be taking the gavel at the Senate’s education and labor committee in the new Congress.

“Today, Senator Kennedy outlined his priorities for the coming year. He spoke about the need to invest in our children’s future, to make a college degree more affordable, to raise the minimum wage, and to ensure that the rights of working people are respected and protected. I fully embrace those same goals, and I am excited to work with Senator Kennedy on making real progress towards all of them. I am confident that we can.

“Congratulations, Ted.”
