Subcommittee Chair and Member Assignments Approved

Chair Gabrielle Giffords

On January 28, Committee Members approved Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) to be Chair of the Space and Aviation Subcommittee. Along with Chair Giffords, sixteen other Committee Members serve on the Subcommittee. The Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics handles issues related to U.S. civil and commercial space activities and aviation R&D.  During the 110th Congress, the Subcommittee worked on issues including space exploration, science, education, and aeronautics activities at NASA, the next generation of air traffic control, and remote sensing data critical to climate change.

“I am honored to take on a leadership role on the Science & Technology Committee.  Under the focused and bipartisan guidance of Chairman Gordon, we are aggressively promoting scientific advancements that are key to U.S. competitiveness in the global marketplace.  Smart research and development investments in several federal agencies, including NASA, will help create the innovations that will drive economic growth and create new jobs,” stated Subcommittee Chair Gabrielle Giffords.
