Washington, D.C. – Nevada Senator Harry Reid met with Dean Francine Mayfield and Associate Dean Lori Navarette from Nevada State College’s School of Education, who were in Washington for the annual American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education conference. 

“I’m grateful to Francine and Lori for taking the time to speak with me about education, particularly teacher preparation in Nevada,” Reid said.  “We need well-trained, qualified teachers in our state, and we discussed ways to bring more people into teaching.”

Mayfield and Navarette also discussed the impact of the $310,000 federal appropriation that Senator Reid secured for Nevada State College in the Fiscal Year 2008 Omnibus Appropriations bill to help recruit and train more and math and science teachers for Nevada schools.
