Nevada Senator Harry Reid today discussed the rise in Nevada’s unemployment rate from 8.1 to 9.1 percent in December, well above the national average of 7.2 percent. Reid has been working closely with the Obama Administration and colleagues in Congress on an economic recovery package that will help put Nevadans back to work by investing in key energy and transportation projects. The plan also cuts taxes for struggling middle-class workers who are fortunate enough to still have jobs. As passage of the package nears, Reid will do all he can to ensure Nevada gets its fair share to help get our state’s economy moving again.

“This news is shocking and deeply saddening,” Reid said. “These aren’t just lost jobs – they’re lost meals, lost houses, lost health care, lost savings and lost dignity for Nevadans. More Nevadans filed for unemployment in December than in any previous month in our state’s history, and a reality in which nearly 1 out of every 10 Nevadans is out of a job is unacceptable.” To read Senator Reid’s full statement on this please click here.
