HERSETH SANDLIN ANNOUNCES $137,000 FOR OGLALA SIOUX TRIBE VIOLENT CRIME VICTIM ASSISTANCE September 11th, 2008, Washington, DC-Today, Rep. Herseth Sandlin announced that the Oglala Sioux Tribe is the recipient of a Tribal Victim Assistance Continuation grant in the amount of $137,000. This funding will assist the Oglala Sioux Tribe in providing direct services such as counseling and emergency services to victims of violent crime including child abuse, sexual assault, homicide, elder abuse, Driving While Intoxicated, and gang violence. “Providing assistance and support for the victims of violent crimes is essential in creating a lasting sense of safety in Indian Country,” Rep. Herseth Sandlin said. “This grant will help the Oglala Sioux Tribe administer essential services and assist victims along their road to recovery.” The Tribal Victim Assistance Continuation program is administered by the U.S. Department of Justice Office for Victims of Crime. ###
