Dr. Michael J. Riley teaches managerial accounting and finance at the University of Maryland University College and coordinates five other faculty members. Also, he is President of Riley Associates LLC. He resides in Laurel, Maryland.

Dr. Riley was CFO of the U. S. Postal Service from August 1993 to July 1998. During his tenure, the Postal Service achieved its only 4-year period of profitability: $1.8 billion, $1.6 billion, $1.3 billion, and $1.4 billion (through the third fiscal quarter of 1998). He served as the principal witness in the 1994-1995 labor contract arbitration, began the acceptance of credit cards at the Postal Service, and reduced debt from $9.9 billion to $5.9 billion. Previously he was CFO of Lee Enterprises, CFO of United Airlines, Treasurer of Michigan Bell Telephone Company, and Assistant Controller of Northeast Utilities.

Dr. Riley has 25 years of executive experience, principally as a Chief Financial Officer, in the communications, transportation, media, and utilities industries. He served as CEO of a manufacturing company prior to starting Riley Associates LLC in 2000. His accomplishments include mergers and acquisitions, major operational turnarounds, instituting performance incentives, and applying advanced financial technology.

He serves as Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors of Church Mutual Insurance Company and Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Architect of the Capitol, an agency of the U. S. Congress. He also serves as Treasurer of the Greater Capital Area Chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors and as a member of the Joint Investment Committee of the Naval Academy Alumni Association, Foundation, and Endowment Fund. He participated in the National Association of Corporate Directors' Blue Ribbon Commission on Audit Committees as a sub-committee chairman and contributing author.

His articles have appeared in The Wall Street Journal, Financial Executive, Director's Monthly, PostCom Bulletin, Directors and Boards magazine, CFO magazine, the web site of the President's Commission on the U. S. Postal Service, and industry journals. Dr. Riley earned a Doctor of Business Administration from Harvard University with a special field of Financial Institutions and Markets and a sub-field of Corporate Finance; an MBA from the University of Southern California; and a BS from the US Naval Academy. He has served as an adjunct faculty member at Harvard University, Boston University, University of Connecticut, University of Michigan, and George Mason University.
