Washington - Congressmen John Shimkus (R, Illinois-19) and Jerry Costello (D, Illinois-12) are pleased to announce a United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grant to Madison County.
Through the Housing Choice Voucher - Family Self Sufficiency Program, the Madison County Housing Authority will receive $65,000. These funds are intended to promote programs that help families move toward economic independence and self sufficiency.
“This funding will allow the County to continue to serve low-income families and to help them obtain safe and affordable housing,” Costello said. “These resources are particularly important as we continue to deal with the subprime mortgage crisis.”
“Government housing programs are all designed to assist those in need with short-term options and help them move toward long-term financial independence,” Shimkus said. “This program assists with the coordination - within local housing agencies - of local public and private resources.”
