Reid, Ensign Announce Grant Funding to Reduce Noise Levels at Reno/Tahoe International Airport

January 23, 2009

Washington, D.C. – Nevada Senators Harry Reid and John Ensign today announced $6 million has been awarded to the Airport Authority of Washoe County by the Department of Transportation.  The funding will be used to reduce noise levels for residences near the Reno/Tahoe International Airport.

"Anyone who has lived near an airport knows how disruptive it can be," Reid said.  "I thank the Department of Transportation for recognizing the need to lessen the impact of noise on those who live near the Reno/Tahoe International Airport."

"Air travel has become a necessary convenience in our modern world," said Ensign.  "Unfortunately, the noise generated by airports can prove to be an annoying side affect for many homeowners.  It is important that we ensure that we mitigate this noise as much as possible, and I am pleased that these funds have been made available to help do just that."
