Working for the Architect of the Capitol

Pay is only part of the compensation you will earn working for the Federal Government. We offer a broad array of benefits programs and family friendly flexibilities to meet the needs of you and your family.

As an agency, the Architect of the Capitol is responsible for construction, maintenance, and modification of the elements comprising the "city within a city" that is the Capitol complex. Architects, engineers and technicians design new structures, spaces, and building systems as well as modifications and upgrades to those already in place. A mix of AOC employees and contractors bring these designs to reality. Employees in the various skilled and unskilled trades maintain the facilities in optimal capacity. Capitol Power Plant employees ensure the effective production of steam and chilled water for the Capitol complex. Restaurant workers strive to meet the culinary and nutritional preferences of congressional staff and the general public. Gardeners and grounds keepers create displays, maintain lawns and plantings, and clear paths and roadways. All of these efforts are directed at making the work of the Congress and the experience of the visiting public as smooth, efficient, and enjoyable as possible.
