Sutton Honored with "Fighting Freshman" Award by U.S. Business & Industry Council

Congresswoman Betty Sutton honored for her commitment to American jobs and American companies

Washington, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Betty Sutton was presented with the "Fighting Freshman" Award by the United States Business and Industry Council (USBIC).  The award, given infrequently to freshmen members of the U.S. House and Senate, recognizes Members for their work on trade and fighting for American manufacturing jobs.

The award, presented to Sutton at her Capitol Hill office by USBIC President Kevin L. Kearns, reads: "USBIC proudly presents its 2007 House Fighting Freshman Award to Rep. Betty Sutton for her outstanding leadership of the freshman class and for ensuring that its voice is heard by the Congressional leadership on the critical issues of trade agreements, globalization, outsourcing, and preserving our domestic manufacturing base and the good jobs that go with it.  We look forward to a long, close, and productive relationship with Rep. Sutton as she fights to maintain a high standard of living for all Americans."

"We're pleased to give Congresswoman Sutton our Fighting Freshman Award," Kearns said. "She's doing a tremendous job of representing Ohio's and the nation's manufacturers and their employees.  We're particularly impressed with the tenacity she's shown in taking on the free traders and outsourcers on Capitol Hill.  Her special gift for leadership was evidenced by the fact that she led 39 freshman congressmen in challenging the status quo thinking on trade, which has gotten us into our present mess of 40,000 shuttered factories and 3 million laid-off workers.  She deserves the heartfelt thanks of her constituents and indeed all Americans."

The USBIC champions the interest of America's domestic, family-owned, small and medium-size companies, which create new products, jobs and growth in the United States.  Its mission is to expand our domestic economy, with a particular emphasis on American manufacturing, processing and fabricating industries, and through the resulting growth, to extend a high standard of living to all Americans.

"The USBIC is an indispensable partner in the fight to give American workers and American businesses a fair shot to compete in the global economy.  I am extraordinarily grateful for their hard work and for their support as we fight to protect our workers and our industries from the dumping of under-priced imports, currency manipulation and illegal subsidies by foreign nations like China," Sutton said.
