Sutton Applauds Passage of Resolution Supporting the Goals of Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month

Congresswoman Betty Sutton co-sponsors H.Res. 257

Washington, D.C. - Yesterday, Congresswoman Betty Sutton applauded House passage of H.Res. 257, a resolution supporting the goals and ideals of Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month.  Sutton co-sponsored the resolution.

"Pancreatic cancer is one of the most serious and deadly forms of cancer.  So far this year alone, 37,170 people have been newly diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and 33, 370 have died.  Unfortunately, statistics show that only five percent of pancreatic cancer patients survive more than five years.  We must improve that rate," Sutton said.

"Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to meet with one of my constituents who has survived pancreatic cancer, as well as with folks whose lives have been touched by the death of a loved one.  Their stories and the tireless work of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN), the first and only national patient advocacy organization serving the pancreatic cancer community, have touched my heart.  I continue to be impressed by their commitment to prevention and detection, and I am proud to be a partner in their quest to develop an effective cure for pancreatic cancer."
