Congresswoman Sutton Passes Measure Honoring Military Support Groups Through House

WASHINGTON, D.C - Today, Congresswomen Betty Sutton (D-OH), passed House Resolution 1200 through the House of Representatives. This resolution honors military support groups for their dedication and support of our service members and their families across the country. The measure passed the House with overwhelming bipartisan support by a vote of 374 to 0.

"Our service men and woman make tremendous sacrifices for our country and this can take an emotional toll on them and their loved ones. Military support groups are there for our military families, offering crucial emotional and material support to help ease the strain.

I am very proud that one of these groups, Family and Friends Connected, is based in Akron, Ohio, which I represent. Saundra Hunt started this group back in 2001, to offer understanding and compassion to our military friends and families. Because of Saundra's dedication, military friends and families from all over Northeastern Ohio know they have a place to turn to share a common experience and receive the comfort and support they need.

Groups like these are the unsung heroes of our nation's military community and I am proud that today we are honoring them for their invaluable contributions," said Congresswoman Sutton.

H.Res. 1200 has been endorsed by: the Association of the United States Army, the Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the United States, the Military Officers Association of America and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

VAdm. Norbert Ryan, Jr., USN-Ret., President of the Military Officers Association of America said: "The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) strongly supports H.R. 1200 that honors the work that military support groups provide for service members and their families. Our military people and their families have never failed our country in times of peace and war, and they deserve the best care and support for their sacrifices and dedication."
