Foreign Affairs & Human Rights
Senator Dodd believes that a peaceful and prosperous world requires strong United States leadership. Leadership, in his view, consists not only of military power. It also means that the United States must build and maintain alliances, play an active role in important multilateral institutions such as the United Nations, and take the lead in efforts to ensure justice and human rights for people across the globe.
Senator Dodd has served on the Foreign Relations Committee for more than 24 years and since 1987, has been the senior Democrat on the Subcommittee for Western Hemisphere, Peace Corps, and Narcotics Affairs. He is an expert on Latin America and the Caribbean promoting peace, reconciliation, the rule of law, and respect for human rights. Senator Dodd has also made fact-finding visits to Afghanistan and Iraq, most recently to Iraq in October 2005. Latest on Foreign Affairs & Human Rights
