The 2009 Presidential Inauguration

Please read all the information here carefully and completely to ensure that your visit to the Inaugural ceremonies goes smoothly.

Inaugural Swearing-In Ceremony Tickets
We received an unprecedented number of ticket requests to the historic Inaugural Swearing-In Ceremony of the 44th President of the United States Barack Obama.  Because we were not allocated enough tickets to meet all requests, we distributed tickets through a lottery process.

You do NOT need a ticket to attend the swearing-in ceremony or the parade. Most areas of the National Mall will be open admission that you do not need a ticket for. The unticketed areas along the National Mall will not be subject to the same level of restrictions as the ticketed area.  Large video screens will be erected in both the ticketed and unticketed areas, as it will be difficult for most ticketholders and general visitors to see the actual stage itself.

Please remember to dress warmly and prepare for several hours outside in winter weather.

John's Post-Inauguration Open House
Congressman John Hall is inviting all residents of New York's 19th Congressional District who will be in Washington, DC on Inauguration Day to his office after the Inaugural Swearing-in Ceremony for a casual Open House.

Accommodations, Weather, and Parking
Hotel space in Washington, DC during Inauguration week will be extremely limited. More people are anticipated to visit DC than there are hotel rooms available. Parking will be severely restricted on the Inauguration Day, and all visitors are strongly encouraged to take public transportation into downtown Washington, DC.

Balls, Galas, Parties, and the Parade
The Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC), formed by the President-elect, is responsible for most of the official balls and galas, as well as the Inaugural Day parade.  Ticket requests for these and other official events should be directed to the PIC.
