On January 28, 2009, by a vote of 17 to 2, the
Senate Judiciary Committee reported to the full Senate the
nomination of Eric H. Holder Jr. to be the next Attorney General.
Holder's nomination by President Obama was officially announced on
December 1, 2008 and the Committee held two days of hearings on
January 15 and January 16. Click

On January 20, 2009, Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.)
had a unique vantage point from which to enjoy the inauguration
ceremony of the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama.
With other members of Congress, Leahy had a clear view of just how
