harkin announces usda grant of $300,000 for algona municipal utilities

Washington, D.C. – Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today announced $300,000 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for Algona Municipal Utilities.  The funding will be used to fund capital improvements at the Algona Family YMCA, a project that will create 11 jobs.   The funding was administered through the Rural Economic Development Loan Program.

“Community building is a vital aspect of drawing residents to Iowa and keeping them there – one of the many reasons rural development funding is so important to our state,” said Harkin.  “Improving the Algona Family YMCA will continue their community building services.”

Harkin is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry.
