(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Senator Jon Tester today released the following statement:

“As we prepare for an historic turning point for our country, it’s my honor to join all Americans in celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior.

“President Obama’s inauguration is a powerful reminder of Dr. King’s vision for our country.  That Democracy – and civil rights – and working together – are always more important than our differences.

“We’ve got a lot to be proud of.  But we still have a lot of challenges ahead as we continue to build our country together—putting people first.

“Overcoming our challenges will take hard work, working together, and common sense.  Those are Montana values.  And I’m proud to take them with me to the U.S. Senate.

“This MLK Day, and this inauguration, let’s celebrate our opportunities for the future.  And let’s not forget the countless Americans who’ve dedicated their lives to making sure everyone has opportunity.

“That’s why Sharla and I spent this National Day of Public Service putting together care packages for our troops.  And we thank all Montanans and Americans who are honoring Dr. King’s legacy by giving back.”
