Wednesday, Janary 7th, 2009:
11:30 am: Convene and begin a period of morning business Senators permitted to speak for up to 10 minutes each.
12:30 pm: The Senate will recess from 12:30 pm until 2:15 pm to allow for the weekly caucus luncheons.
This morning Senator Reid introduced the Bingaman Lands bill, S.22, and began the Rule 14 process. Rule 14 is an expedited procedure to place the bill on the Calendar of Business. The bill will be read a second time tomorrow and will be on the Calendar on Friday. Once the bill is on the Calendar, Senator Reid intends to move to proceed to the bill and to file cloture on the motion to proceed. Cloture takes 2 days to ripen. Senator Reid announced that it is his intention to be in session over the weekend and that the cloture vote on the motion to proceed to S.22 would occur Sunday morning.
