Arlington to Receive $100,000 Grant for North Tract Soccer Field

Washington, D.C., February 28th - Congressman Jim Moran, Virginia Democrat, announced today that Arlington County has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the U.S. Soccer Foundation to build a new, "all-conditions" soccer field at the County's North Tract site.

"Arlington County's North Tract will soon go from a blighted property to being the home of world-class sports facilities open to any resident looking to stretch their legs and enjoy athletic exercise," said Moran.  "I thank the U.S. Soccer Foundation for recognizing the County's efforts to provide its citizens top notch recreational infrastructure. They can be assured the grant will be put to good use."

The U.S. Soccer Foundation awarded All Conditions Fields (ACF) grants for the construction of 14 lighted, full-size soccer fields that can be used around the clock, regardless of weather conditions.  All Conditions Fields are composed of synthetic-grass and cushioned with rubber pellets. They are easily maintained, requiring none of the watering and seeding of a natural grass field and durable.  The North Tract is located between Crystal City and I-395.

The U.S. Soccer Foundation was established in 1994 to manage the surplus funds generated by the 1994 FIFA World Cup held in the United States.  Under the guidance of its Board of Directors, the Foundation has taken a leading role in supporting the continuous development of the sport at all levels. Over $45 million in grants, financial support and loans have been made to help develop a soccer nation. The Foundation has provided 439 grants focused on developing players, coaches and referees and building or enhancing fields and soccer complexes, with a special emphasis on economically disadvantaged urban areas.  For more information, or to donate online, you can visit:  ussoccerfoundation.org.
