Washington, D.C., February 6th - Congressman Jim Moran, Virginia Democrat, issued the following statement upon confirmation by the military that the number of troops from the Commonwealth of Virginia having died in Iraq and Afghanistan has reached 100.
"My heart goes out to the families of these brave men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the service of their country. We mourn the loss of these fallen heroes. Our prayers are with the families, their lost loved ones and the troops still serving in battle overseas. May they be brought home as soon as possible."
Of the 100 Virginia soldiers who gave their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan, 87 have died in Operation Iraqi Freedom and 13 have died in Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan). The total number of U.S. troops lost in these two missions is 3,422. |
