U.S. Capitol Visitor Center Opens to the Public Speaker Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Reid, Senate Minority Leader McConnell, House Minority Leader Boehner, and Acting Architect of the Capitol Stephen Ayers commemorated its opening on December 2, 2008, with a ceremony in Emancipation Hall.

Visitors to the U.S. Capitol can also now find expanded information about visiting the Capitol at the new Capitol Visitor Center web site at: http://www.visitthecapitol.gov.   Visit the web site now to learn about booking tours, amenities at the Visitor Center, the Exhibition Hall and tips for visiting the Capitol.

2008 Capitol Christmas Tree2008 Capitol Christmas Tree: As part of the Architect of the Capitol’s continuing commitment to save energy, for the 4th year in a row, strands of LED (Light Emitting Diodes) lights were used to decorate the entire tree. LED lights use little electricity, have an extremely long life-span, and are environmentally friendly. Jack Gladstone performed the official song of the 2008 Christmas tree lighting ceremony, "Heart of Montana."

We Have the Power to Save Energy.  Learn More About AOC's New Program
 

Power to Save
October is Energy Awareness Month.  On October 8, the Office of the Architect of the Capitol (AOC launched its new energy awareness program -- Power to Save.  "We believe as should be leaders in the national effort to conserve energy, and as stewards of the Capitol complex, we will continue to do our part to make this goal a reality in our facilities," said Acting Architect of the Capitol Stephen T. Ayers, AIA.  "You Can help us make a difference." Click the banner above to learn more about the Power to Save program.
