Supporting Our Troops
I believe that providing adequate resources and support for our troops, particularly during a time of war, is one of my most important responsibilities as a Member of Congress. I take this responsibility seriously, and have strongly advocated for both legislation and funding needed to ensure that the needs of service members and veterans are met.
I am particularly proud to have taken the lead on funding the Citizen Soldier Support Program, an initiative developed by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in conjunction with several North Carolina universities and other organizations. Citizen Soldier mobilizes the entire community to provide support for the families of National Guard and Reserve personnel who are deployed abroad. I have also worked to increase funding for body armor and armored vehicles, to ensure sufficient health care for troops and veterans, and to increase military pay and key benefits.
