Congresswoman Hirono appointed to higher education and early childhood, elementary and secondary education subcommittees

 
 

HONOLULU -- Congresswoman Mazie K. Hirono (D-Hawai'i) was appointed to two key subcommittees of the House Committee on Education and Labor.

Hirono was selected to the Subcommittee on Higher Education which will have jurisdiction over the No Child Left Behind Act, special education, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, teacher training, preschool education, Headstart and quality and vocational and technical education, among other areas.

She will also serve on the Higher Education subcommittee that will deal with the Higher Education Act, supporting low and middle income students to access colleges and helping families to pay for college education.

The full committee also has jurisdiction over job training, retirement security for workers, pensions, health care for working families, employee benefits, adult education, OSHA, EEOC, wage and hour issues and other labor laws.
