“Floodwaters are flowing downstream creating a new path of destruction in several Iowa communities,” Grassley said. “The President’s quick action is appropriate and necessary to help these communities recover from this 500-year flood.”

 

Counties added today for Individual Assistance under the most recent declaration include Allamakee, Clayton, Des Moines, Fremont and Harrison. Individual Assistance is federal assistance available to individuals and households.

 

Counties added today for Public Assistance under the most recent declaration include Adams, Clayton, Grundy, Howard, Iowa, Linn, Marshall, Mitchell, Ringgold, Winneshiek, Worth and Wright. Public Assistance allows state and local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations to receive assistance on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the flooding.

            Grassley encourages everyone with losses to register for any available federal assistance.

 

            “It doesn’t cost anything to sign up and may save some time and anxiety in the future.  People may never need the assistance, but it’s nice to be covered if it’s necessary,” Grassley said

 

            President Bush has now amended his May 28 Disaster Declaration five times. The complete list of counties available for Individual Assistance include Adams, Allamakee, Benton, Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan, Butler, Cedar, Cerro Gordo, Clayton, Delaware, Des Moines, Fayette, Floyd, Fremont, Hardin, Harrison, Johnson, Jones, Linn, Louisa, Marion, Muscatine, Page, Polk, Story, Tama, Union, and Winneshiek Counties.

 

            The complete list of counties available for Public Assistance include Adams, Black Hawk, Boone, Buchanan, Butler, Cerro Gordo, Clayton, Crawford, Dallas, Delaware, Dubuque, Floyd, Franklin, Grundy, Howard, Iowa, Linn, Marion, Marshall, Mitchell, Ringgold, Story, Tama, Union, Winneshiek, Worth, and Wright Counties.
