January 29, 2009 - Speaker Taps Speier for Climate Post
Washington, DC – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has asked fellow San Francisco lawmaker Jackie Speier to serve on the crucial House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming, adding a third assignment to her already impressive committee load.

January 28, 2009 - American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Passes House
Wednesday, the House of Representatives passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.  Congresswoman Jackie Speier (San Francisco /San Mateo County) voted in favor of the bill, highlighting its potential for creating million of new jobs. 

“In 2008, our economy lost 2.5 million jobs.  Something needs to be done and done immediately,” Speier said in Washington before flying home to her Bay Area district after the vote.  “This legislation will create or save more than 4 million jobs, many of them in education, infrastructure and much-needed green technologies such as clean water projects and upgrading our nation’s electrical grid.”

January 26, 2009 - Walk-In Office Hours a Hit with Constituents

On Saturday, January 24, Congresswoman Jackie Speier held walk-in office hours from 11:00 am –2:00 pm.     Nineteen constituents showed up at the San Mateo district office and were able to spend some time talking one-on-one with the Congresswoman about their concerns.  Issues covered included the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, child abuse, Medicare, runaway Pentagon spending, lead in toys, the environment, health insurance, problems with the Federal Reserve, a cost-effective way of delivering medical services to lower-income patients, the Small Business Administration and federal help for elementary schools.
