Committee Assignments

As the junior senator of Florida, Martinez serves on the Armed ServicesBanking, Housing and Urban AffairsCommerce, Science, and Transportation Committees; and is the Ranking Member on the Special Committee on Aging. These committee assignments enable Martinez to play an integral role in issues facing Florida today.

ARMED SERVICES COMMITTEE

Senator Martinez knows the importance of developing and maintaining our Armed Forces serving both domestically and overseas. Florida is home to more than 20 military installations and plays a vital role in our national security strategy. As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Senator Martinez is a strong advocate for modernization and making certain the men and women of our military have the resources they need to achieve their missions and meet their goals.

BANKING, HOUSING, AND URBAN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE

In his role on the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, Senator Martinez works to represent our state's interests and assist Floridians during these challenging economic times. As former Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Senator Martinez understands the need to provide families facing the threat of foreclosure with alternatives to losing their homes. Senator Martinez is committed to enacting meaningful reforms to protect homeowners and ensure the long-term economic prosperity of Floridians. Senator Martinez looks forward to rebuilding the framework of our economy for our nation's future.

COMMERCE, SCIENCE, AND TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE

As a member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, Senator Martinez provides unique perspective stemming from Florida's position as one of the world's top tourist destinations and a home to our nation's space program. Senator Martinez's responsibilities include addressing national security and economic challenges and overseeing the Committee's wide swath of jurisdiction and issue areas. These include oversight of the Coast Guard, NASA, and NOAA and issues involving mass transit, telecommunications, interstate commerce, and marine fisheries which have a great impact on Florida's economy.

SPECIAL COMMITTEE ON AGING

As the ranking member of the Special Committee on Aging, Senator Martinez plays an active role in shaping policies important to Florida’s seniors. While serving as Orange County Chairman, Martinez established a local Commission on Aging in order to research and investigate issues surrounding seniors. Similar to the local commission, the Aging Committee is a key voice in the United States Senate for issues ensuring our seniors live longer, healthier and more productive lives and directly influences legislation in other committees that affects seniors. From Medicare to Social Security reform to age-discrimination, serving on the Aging Committee allows Martinez to expand his reach and better meet the needs of Florida’s seniors and our nation’s seniors alike.
