Charles Clinton Gossett, served from 1945 to 1946
Charles Clinton Gossett was born in Pricetown, Highland County, Ohio, on September 2, 1888. He attended the public schools and moved to Cunningham, Washington in 1907. He then moved to Ontario, Oregon in 1910, and finally Nampa, Canyon County, Idaho, in 1922.
In Nampa, he engaged in agriculture, livestock,feed, and shipping businesses. He was a member of the Idaho State House of Representatives from 1933 to 1937. He served as Lieutenant Governor from 1937 to1939 and again from 1941 until 1943. He served as Governor of Idaho from January 1945 until his resignation in November 1945.
He was appointed as a Democrat to the United States Senate, November 17, 1945, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of John Thomas. He served from November 17, 1945, to November 6, 1946. He was an unsuccessful candidate for nomination to fill the vacancy in 1946.
Upon leaving the Senate, he resumed his former business pursuits. He died in Boise, Idaho, September 20, 1974, and was buried in Kohlerlawn Cemetery in Nampa, Idaho.
