Services > Digital Television Transition

Beginning February 17, 2009 consumers who rely only on antennas (including outside antennas and “rabbit ears”) for their teleivision will be unable to receive broadcast signals withou a digital-to-analog converter box. These boxes received direct digital signals and convert them for display on analog televisions.

Households are eligible to request two coupons worth $40 each towards the purchase of up to two digitial-to-analog converter boxes.

For information on the coupon or to learn more about the transition to digital, visit www.dtv.gov.

QUESTIONS REGARDING DTV CONVERTER BOX COUPONS:
The DTV Converter Box Coupon Program is administered by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), which is a part of the Department of Commerce.  Any questions related to coupons (i.e. How to apply, Status of Requests, Lost or Expired Coupons) should be directed to NTIA.  Many questions may be answered by using the FAQs on www.dtv2009.gov. .

QUESTIONS REGARDING INSTALLATION AND/OR RECEPTION OF DTV SIGNALS:  The FCC has developed several fact sheets designed to assist with the installation of converter boxes and to troubleshoot that process.

INSTALLATION FACT SHEETS:

In many cases, once consumers are at the stage of installing their converter box or setting up a new DTV set, the Troubleshooting Guide is the most helpful document to provide.  If the consumer is still having difficulties after using the Troubleshooting Guide, the consumer can contact the FCC at 1-888-CALL-FCC (1-888-225-5322).
