During his first week in office, Senator Warner went on the road to hear from students and small business owners who have been affected by the economic downturn. At a roundtable discussion at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College in Richmond, Senator Warner heard from more than two-dozen college students, small business owners and others who are struggling with college loans, a tight job market, mortgage pressures, declining company profits and other economic concerns.

Senator Warner will work with the Obama administration and the Virginia congressional delegation to countermand an 11th-hour U.S. Navy decision to make Florida's Mayport Naval Station the home of a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. Such a move would end Norfolk's status as the Navy���s primary nuclear-capable carrier port on the East Coast.

Mark R. Warner was officially sworn in as Virginia Senator on January 6, 2009.
