SPACE'S CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT MAY RECEIVE AS MUCH AS $50 MILLION IN EDUCATION FUNDING THROUGH ECONOMIC RECOVERY AND REINVESTMENT BILL

- Stimulus Plan to Including Funding to Rebuild Schools and Invest in our Children’s Future -

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Marking a significant investment in our children’s future, the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act under consideration in the House of Representatives could provide as much as $50 million in school funding for Ohio’s 18th Congressional District, Congressman Zack Space (Oh-18) announced today. This funding would help school districts meet shortfalls and support school construction.

“The single best investment we can make in our long-term economic development is properly educating our children,” Space said. “This funding stream has the potential to help protect our teachers’ jobs and repair the crumbling schools many of our children attend every day,”

“The leaders and entrepreneurs of tomorrow are sitting in underfunded schools today. Every dollar we spend educating our children will be returned many times over by helping them prepare for the jobs of the future,” Space continued.

The estimated figures are based on funding provided through Title I, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and K-12 School Modernization for Fiscal Years 2009 and 2010. These estimates were prepared by the House Committee on Education and Labor. Ohio specific estimates are available here.

Congressman Space has represented Ohio's 18th Congressional District since 2007. He is working to restore integrity to the office, expand Ohio's economy, and support renewable energy.
