(WASHINGTON, D.C.) --- U.S. Senator Byron Dorgan (D-ND) said Thursday that the economic recovery package, which won approval in the Senate Appropriations Committee this week, includes $871 million for “shovel-ready” Air Force military construction projects that should lead to job-creating building projects at Minot Air Force Base.
Dorgan, a member of the Appropriations Committee, says his analysis of the bill and the Pentagon’s priorities shows that the economic recovery bill should fund construction of up to three dormitories for enlisted personnel at Minot Air Force Base. The project will create construction jobs that will help boost the local economy, Dorgan said, even as it bolsters the infrastructure and improves living quarters for Minot’s airmen and women.
“We’ve seen in recent weeks that North Dakota is not immune to the economic troubles that are facing the nation. That’s why I think it’s important that we pass legislation that will put people to work and get this economy moving. The economic recovery bill we approved in committee yesterday will create jobs in the Minot area and give a boost to the Air Force Base,” Dorgan said.
The economic recovery legislation now moves to the full Senate for consideration.
