Rep. Israel Secures Position on Military Construction & Veterans Affairs Appropriations Subcommittee

Israel joins third Appropriations subcommittee, retaining seats on State & Foreign Operations and Energy & Water

Washington, DC — Wednesday, Rep. Steve Israel (D- Long Island) secured a position on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies. Israel is the only New York Member on the subcommittee.

“Serving as a member of the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Subcommittee puts me in a position to help New York and keep fighting for issues I’ve spend my entire career working on – caring for our veterans, ensuring that our military families have the support they need, and guaranteeing members of our Armed Forces have top notch facilities at home and around the world,” said Rep. Steve Israel.

The Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Subcommittee funds Department of Defense facilities in the United States and around the world, and funds the Veterans Administration. The subcommittee has played a key role in recent years mandating that the VA improve services to veterans and cut down on wait times to see doctors. The subcommittee is chaired by Rep. Chet Edwards (D-TX).

Israel will also retain his seats on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations, as well as the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development. Israel joined the House Appropriations Committee in 2006. Previously, Israel served on the House Armed Services Committee.
