Posted below are notes and links from Senator Inhofe's converstation with John Gibson this afternoon:

STIMULUS PACKAGE

General

-Last week, the House marked up its version of President Obama's economic stimulus package. The Senate will markup its own version this week. Votes will happen in House this week (Wednesday) and in the Senate next week.

-The House markup of the stimulus is made up of two parts - $550 billion in spending and $275 billion in tax provisions totaling $825 billion over 2 years.

Infrastructure

-The bill only includes $30 billion for highways and $19 billion for water infrastructure.

-Senator Inhofe is working with Senator Boxer to increase the percentage going to infrastructure to at least 10% = $82 billion.

-Nationwide, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials found $64 billion worth of projects that are shovel ready. The 4 million jobs created by this level of investment would be distributed across the nation.

-For every $1 billion invested in highways and bridges, 27,800 jobs are created.

Spending

HOWEVER, this bill spends for things like:

-$650 million for digital TV coupons,

-$50 million for the National Endowment of the Arts,

-$44 million for repairs to USDA headquarters,

-$200 million for grass planting on the National Mall,

-$20 billion in broadband Internet grants and various science research grants,

-$850 million for wildfire management,

-$150 million for the Smithsonian, and

-$1 billion for the Census.

Other Topics Senator Inhofe wants you to know about:

Inhofe Disappointed in President's Reversal of Mexico City Policy on Taxpayer Funded Abortions

U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe made a statement about President Obama's reversal on Friday of the Mexico City Policy that opposes U.S. funding for international organizations that promote or perform abortions. "Legalized abortion robs this nation of vast potential and it destroys some of our nation's most cherished values: family, responsibility, and commitment," Senator Inhofe said. "Our government has both a moral and constitutional obligation to protect the sanctity of human life."

Senator Inhofe Opposes Timothy Geithner as Treasury Secretary

Senator Inhofe expressed concern and voted against President Obama's nominee for Secretary of the Treasury, Timothy Geithner. "I do not believe Mr. Geithner has been entirely candid about his tax issues and he has been less than forthcoming about all the facts," Senator Inhofe said. "However, I want to emphasize that my objection to Timothy Geithner's nomination to head the Treasury Department has nothing to do with his tax issues. Given his strong support-stronger by many accounts than Secretary Paulson himself-for ad hoc bailouts of big firms, I cannot support his nomination."

INHOFE-BOREN-FALLIN-COLE -SULLIVAN -LUCAS SAY NO TO TERRORISTS COMING TO OKLAHOMA

http://inhofe.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=PressRoom.PressReleases&ContentRecord_id=05EFA7C8-802A-23AD-40FD-14372AD88148

Senator Inhofe, a Senior Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Rep. Dan Boren (D-Okla.), joined with other members of Oklahoma's Congressional delegation to express outrage at President Obama's decision to shut down Guantanamo Bay, possibly leading to terrorists coming to Oklahoma. "President Obama's decision to shut down Guantanamo Bay could have a devastating impact on our national security and is simply unacceptable," Senator Inhofe said.  "Through my position on the Senate Armed Services Committee, I will lead the fight in the Senate to prevent these terrorists from coming to my state or any state on American soil."
