The safety analysis and risk management research ensures the
highest levels of safety, through certification of products, approval of
organizations to provide services, development and implementation of a
regulatory framework. Research involves:
Conducting studies and providing reports
concerning the safety of transportation conveyances and infrastructure.
Collecting and analyzing data on accidents,
incidents and occurrences.
Improve efficiency of acquiring, maintaining,
distributing and analyzing transportation safety data to enable governments and
industry to take effective actions to reduce the number of and severity of
transportation-related fatalities.
Furthering the DOT’s goal of serving as a
national and international resource center of knowledge exchange on programs
that identify and mitigate risk through a system safety management approach.
Develop, implement, and improve the means to
assess transportation safety data quality standards.
