Grants and Funding

This page provides access to information about funding opportunities available from EPA's Office of Air and Radiation (OAR). As a part of EPA's initiative to encourage competition in the award of grants, cooperative agreements, and other assistance agreement vehicles, OAR requires that all funding opportunities subject to the Agency's competition policy be published on this site. We encourage you to bookmark this page and visit on a regular basis. OAR grants and other funding opportunities will be posted as they become available.

This site offers information on assistance agreement (i.e., grants, cooperative agreements, etc.) opportunities only. For a detailed listing of OAR contracting opportunities, please refer to the EPA Acquisition Forecast Database.

“Community Action for a Renewed Environment (CARE) program"
This notice announces the availability of funds and solicits from eligible entities project proposals to receive financial assistance through the Community Action for a Renewed Environment (CARE) program. CARE is a unique community-based, community-driven, multimedia demonstration program designed to help communities understand and reduce risks due to toxic pollutants and environmental concerns from all sources. The CARE grant program works with the eligible entities to help their communities form collaborative partnerships, develop an understanding of the many local sources of risk from toxic pollutants and environmental concerns, set priorities, and identify and carry out projects to reduce risks through collaborative action at the local level. CARE’s long-term goal is to help communities build self-sustaining, community-based partnerships that will continue to improve human health and local environments into the future. The objective of the CARE grant program is to work collaboratively within the community to investigate the effectiveness of the CARE process--whether this cross-Agency, multi-media program provides greater environmental benefits than either non-collaborative or single media approaches.

“Sustainability for the 7th Generation Initiative (SGI)"
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) is accepting applications from federally recognized Tribal governments and Tribal consortia. This notice announces the availability of funds and solicits applications from eligible entities to receive financial assistance through the Sustainability for the 7th Generation Initiative (SGI). The way of life for many Indian cultures is centered on the concept of “seven generations.” That is to say that the decisions today are always considered by the impact they will have on the seventh generation to come. The SGI provides a framework to integrate transportation, energy, land use and air quality planning programs into projects that yield measurable air quality benefits in a relatively short period of time. SGI works with eligible entities to help develop activities to help reduce emissions and promote sustainability with the goal of cleaner and healthier air. This is performed by participants working with EPA and other partners to increase Tribal community participation and leverage resources. The long-term goal is to help Tribal communities build self-sustaining, Tribal community-based partnerships that will continue to achieve positive environmental impacts, livability/cultural preservation, and economic development benefits for many generations to come.
