BLM Opens Round 10 of Southern Nevada Land Funds Expenditures

LAS VEGAS --- The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) today opened the nomination period for Round 10 project proposals funded under the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act (SNPLMA). The nomination period closes Friday, October 31.

Federal, State, and Local governmental entities may seek SNPLMA funds in Clark, Lincoln and White Pine Counties in the following categories: Capital Improvements; Conservation Initiatives; Parks, Trails, and Natural Areas; Hazardous Fuels Reduction and Wildfire Prevention; and Eastern Nevada Landscape Restoration Projects. Federal land management agencies also may seek funds for Environmentally Sensitive Land Acquisition projects throughout the State of Nevada.

Specific requirements for nominating projects in all categories, including entities eligible within the different categories, are available at www.blm.gov/nv/st/en/snplma.html. Nominations must be submitted directly to: BLM Las Vegas Field Office, SNPLMA Division, 4701 North Torrey Pines Drive, Las Vegas NV 89130. For more information, please call 702-515-5063. All Round 10 nominations must be submitted by 4:30 pm, Pacific Time, on October 31, 2008. Land acquisition nominations require early submittal of a two-to-three page summary of the nomination and a preliminary title report by 4:30 PM on Monday, September 15. The summary form for this submittal is available on the SNPLMA website shown above. Late nominations will not be accepted.

The BLM is authorized to sell land in the Las Vegas Valley under the authority of the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act of 1998 (SNPLMA), which also provides for the disposition of the proceeds. Five percent of the sale proceeds are made available to the State of Nevada General Education Fund. Ten percent is made available to the Southern Nevada Water Authority. The remaining 85 percent of the sale proceeds, plus interest, is held in a special account used to fund projects throughout the State, in the categories set out in the statute.
