Salmon Recovery Division is responsible for recovery of salmonids listed under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). The division oversees and participates in regional, state, tribal and local subbasin planning efforts for recovery of ESA-listed salmonids, including implementation of the off-site mitigation portions of the Federal Columbia River Power System Biological Opinion. It integrates salmon hatchery and inland harvest management with sub-basin plans and provides ESA authorizations for these activities through Section 7 consultations, Section 10 hatchery or fishery permits, or Section 4(d) through hatchery and genetic management plans, fishery management and evaluation plans, joint state-tribal resource management plans, and tribal resource management plans. Salmon authorizations and recovery activities throughout the region are monitored and cumulative effects assessed. The division provides policy and biological advice (with support from the Northwest Fisheries Science Center) on sub-basin recovery goals. Division staff members work out of the Northwest Region’s Portland, Seattle, Ellensburg, Roseburg, Lacey and Boise offices. SRD general phone number: 503-230-5418
