FY-2005 Conservation Program Allocations to States by Program

These maps show the amounts distributed to Natural Resources Conservation
Service (NRCS) State offices for operating the following conservation programs in fiscal
year 2005: Environmental Quality Incentives Program, Farm and Ranch Lands
Protection Program, Grassland Reserve Program, Wetlands Reserve Program, and Wildlife Habitat
Incentives Program.
These programs were reauthorized in the Farm Security and Rural Investment
Act of 2002 (Farm Bill). Through these programs, NRCS helps farmers, ranchers,
and other landowners plan and implement conservation measures to solve natural
resource concerns on their operations, maintain and improve agricultural land,
and protect the environment.

This map shows the amounts distributed to NRCS State offices for
operating the Environmental Quality Incentives Program in fiscal year
2005. This voluntary program addresses both local natural resource needs
and national resource priorities. The funding shares the cost with
farmers and ranchers for installing conservation practices to improve
animal waste management, irrigation water management, grazing land, soil
erosion and sediment control, and other resource concerns.

This map shows the amounts distributed to NRCS State offices for
operating the Farm and Ranch Lands Protection Program in fiscal year
2005. This voluntary program helps farmers and ranchers keep their land
in agriculture. The program provides matching funds to State, Tribal, or
local governments and non-governmental organizations with existing farm
and ranch land protection programs to purchase conservation easements.

This map shows the amounts distributed to NRCS State offices for
operating the Wetlands Reserve Program in fiscal year 2005. This
voluntary program provides landowners financial incentives and technical
assistance for converting frequently flooded, marginal agricultural land
to its former wetland condition. Through WRP, the NRCS provides
technical assistance to landowners to address wetland, wildlife habitat,
water quality, and related natural resource concerns on their land in an
environmentally sound and cost-effective manner.

This map shows the amounts distributed to NRCS State
offices for operating the Grassland Reserve Program in fiscal year 2005.
This voluntary program helps landowners and operators restore and
protect grassland, including rangeland, pastureland, shrubland, and
certain other lands, while maintaining the areas as grazing lands.
The program emphasizes support for working grazing operations;
enhancement of plant and animal biodiversity; and protection of
grassland and land containing shrubs and forbs under threat of
conversion to cropping, urban development, and other activities that
threaten grassland resources.

FY-2005 WHIP Allocations

This map shows the amounts distributed to NRCS State offices for
operating the Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program in fiscal year 2005.
WHIP is a voluntary program that encourages creation of high quality
habitats that support wildlife populations of National, State, Tribal,
and local significance. Through WHIP, NRCS provides financial
assistance for creation, restoration, and enhancement of upland,
wetland, riparian, and aquatic habitat areas on their property.

AMA Allocations to States

This map shows the amounts distributed to NRCS State offices for
operating the Agricultural Management Assistance (AMA) Program in fiscal
year 2005. AMA provides cost-share and incentive payments to
agricultural producers to voluntarily address issues such as water
management, water quality, and erosion control by incorporating
conservation practices into their farming operation. Producers may
construct or improve water management structures or irrigation
structures; plant trees for windbreaks or to improve water quality; and
mitigate risk through production diversification or resource
conservation practices, including soil erosion control, integrated pest
management, or transition to organic farming.

CSP Allocations to States
FY-2004 CSP Allocations

This map shows the amounts distributed to NRCS State offices
and awarded to farmers and ranchers who successfully enrolled in
contracts in the Conservation Security Program (CSP) for ongoing stewardship in fiscal year 2004. CSP
is a voluntary conservation program that supports ongoing stewardship of
private, working agricultural lands by providing payment for maintaining
and enhancing natural resources. CSP identifies and rewards those
farmers and ranchers who are meeting the highest standards of
conservation and environmental management on their operations.
