| What Is the Primary Research Question You Are Proposing with this Proposal? | 1. What hydroturbine operating regions actually cause damage and what measurement and detection methods are needed to define those regions? 2. Can improved detection methods be developed to support redefinition of hydroturbine operational exclusion zones in terms of damaging operations? (Exclusion zones are defined as generation ranges producing rough operation and cavitation.) 3. What are the relationships between exclusion zone operation and hydroturbine mechanical damage in terms of operations and maintenance costs? 4. What changes in the present control strategies can be made to increase the range of hydroturbine operations to provide substantial increases in unit efficiency, while keeping maintenance costs within acceptable limits? |
