Characterization Test Cell

National Environmental Technology Test Site
Characterization and Monitoring Branch's Characterization Test Cell (CTC): The Advanced Fuel Hydrocarbon Remediation NETTS located at NBVC, Port Hueneme Site, emphasizes remediation of fuel hydrocarbon contamination in soil, sediments, and groundwater.

A characterization test cell (CTC) is being built at the National Environmental Technology Test Site (NETTS) at Port Hueneme, California. The CTC will be filled with sand, gravel, and clay to simulate different aquifer conditions and will have a circulation system to simulate groundwater flow. The test cell can be used to test methods of locating and assessing subsurface contamination from organic and inorganic pollutants, to study natural attenuation and engineered remediation systems, and to produce data sets with which to validate statistical methods and computer models.
