ETV Participates in Meetings of the International Working Group on Environmental Technology Verification, European Advance ETV Project

On February 2-4, ETV representatives will participate in the fourth meeting of the International Working Group on Environmental Technology Verification (IWG-ETV), hosted by the European Commission in Stuttgart, Germany. Evelyn Hartzell will represent and present on the U.S. EPA ETV Program at the meeting. A kick-off meeting for Europe’s new ETV international effort, Advance ETV, will also be held. Teresa Harten, U.S. ETV Director, will attend the meeting as a member of the advisory board. Both activities are designed to help raise the international relevance of environmental technology verification and promote leveraging of resources and skills to meet shared environmental challenges in drinking water treatment, greenhouse gas reduction and energy efficiency, compliance monitoring, and other areas. For more information, please contact Evelyn Hartzell, EPA, at (513) 569-7728. See additional information on ETV international activities.

ETV Materials Management and Remediation Center Solicits Stakeholders

ETV recently announced the addition of a new Materials Management and Remediation (MMR) Center. The MMR Center, operated in cooperation with Battelle, verifies materials management technologies, including for recycling, beneficial use of waste materials, recovery of useful components of waste, and treatment to minimize disposal requirements (e.g., containment, volume, cost); and technologies to remediate contaminated land and ground water, such as that found at Superfund sites and other properties where industrial or commercial activities have resulted in a legacy of hazardous constituents that limit future use of the property. The MMR Center is currently soliciting stakeholders to help guide verification activities in these areas. ETV stakeholders assist the program by helping develop protocols for verification testing, prioritizing the types of technologies to be verified, and implementing outreach activities to the customer groups they represent.

The MMR Center is planning an informational teleconference for potential stakeholders in February 2009. If you are interested in becoming a stakeholder or participating in this teleconference, or for questions about the MMR Center, please contact Amy Dindal, Battelle, at (561) 422-0113, or Teri Richardson, EPA, at (513) 569-7949. See additional information on the MMR Center.

Vendor Solicitations

ETV centers issue solicitations for vendors and collaborators interested in verification. For a list of active ETV vendor solicitations, please visit Vendors Wanted, or contact the appropriate ETV center. Recently issued solicitations include the following:

ETV Advanced Monitoring Systems Center Solicits Technology Vendors

The AMS Center, operated by Battelle, is soliciting vendors and collaborators interested in verification testing of the following technologies:

Vapor Intrusion Monitoring Technologies: Interior and exterior sampling techniques, as well as real-time monitoring technologies are being sought for participation in this test which is tentatively planned for fall 2009. Interested participants should contact Amy Dindal, Battelle, at (561) 422-0113.

Monitoring Technologies for Contaminants in Air, Water, and Soil: For more information, please contact Ann Louise Sumner, Battelle, at (614) 424-3973.

ETV Air Pollution Control Technology Center Solicits Technology Vendors

The APCT Center, operated by RTI International, is soliciting vendors to participate in verification tests of the following technologies: diesel engine retrofit emissions control technologies, fabric filter media, and ventilation air cleaning or filtration technologies. Interested vendors should contact Jenia Tufts, RTI, at (919) 485-2698.

ETV Drinking Water Systems Center Solicits Technology Vendors

The DWS Center, operated by NSF International, is soliciting vendors and collaborators interested in verification testing of technologies in the following areas: emerging contaminants, pharmaceutical and personal care products, to assist in compliance with the Long-Term 2 Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule and the Ground Water Rule, water scarcity, nanotechnology, and water infrastructure. For more information, please contact Bruce Bartley, NSF, at (734) 769-5148.

ETV Greenhouse Gas Technology Center Solicits Technology Vendors

The GHG Center, operated by Southern Research Institute, invites vendors to participate in verification tests of the following technologies:

Micro-Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Technologies: Small, residential scale (less than 10kW) CHP technologies. These "micro-CHP" technologies are utilized to provide on-site power generation, space heat, hot water heating, and/or cooling at residences and small commercial facilities. Interested vendors should contact Tim Hansen, Southern Research, at (919) 282-1052 or hansen@southernresearch.org.

Biofuels Production Technologies: The GHG center is soliciting for technology vendors/developers, funding and demonstration partners, and stakeholders in the field of biofuels production. The center is interested in verifying the performance and benefits of a variety of technologies for the production of biofuels, as well as the environmental impacts of biofuels production and use on greenhouse gas emissions. For more information, please contact Tim Hansen, Southern Research, at (919) 282-1052 or hansen@southernresearch.org.

ETV Materials Management and Remediation Center Solicits Technology Vendors

The MMR Center, operated by Battelle, is soliciting vendors and collaborators interested in verification testing of remediation and materials management technologies, including, but not limited to, technologies for recycling, beneficial use of waste materials, recovery of useful components of waste, and treatment to minimize disposal requirements; and technologies to remediate contaminated land and ground water, such as is found at Superfund sites. For more information, please contact Amy Dindal, Battelle, at (561) 422-0113.
