The purpose of the Teacher Quality Reading and Writing Education research program is to identify effective strategies for improving the performance of teachers in ways that lead to improvements in students' reading and writing skills, and to develop practical assessments of teacher knowledge and validate these assessments against measures of students' reading and writing performance. Through this program, the Institute will support research on the development and evaluation of teacher preparation programs, teacher professional development programs, and assessments of teacher knowledge.
