Arlington, VA. December 22, 2008 - With
the Presidential Inauguration less than a month away and an estimated
2 to 4 million people expected to attend Inaugural events in the
nation’s capital from January 17-20, 2009, the National Communications
System (NCS) is advising all subscribers of the Government Emergency
Telecommunications Service (GETS) and Wireless Priority Service
(WPS) to test their subscriptions and verify their telephone numbers

NCS Installs
New SHARES Antenna to Enhance High Frequency Emergency Radio

antenna – installed last weekend in Arlington -- will improve
high frequency radio operations for one of the National Communications
System’s (NCS) priority communications programs, allowing
the NCS to better monitor and participate in backup emergency radio

Assist
the President, the National Security Council, the Director of
the Office of Science and Technology Policy and the Director of
the Office of Management and Budget in (1) the exercise of the
telecommunications functions and responsibilities, and (2) the
coordination of the planning for and provision of national security
and emergency preparedness communications for the Federal government
under all circumstances, including crisis or emergency, attack
& recovery and reconstitution. |
