Marine Corps Ground Forces Readiness

The Marine Corps Ground Forces Readiness program provides Marine units with the resources they need for training and equipment maintenance to ensure that they are ready to conduct military operations in defense of our nation.

Rating

What This Rating Means

PERFORMING
Effective

This is the highest rating a program can achieve. Programs rated Effective set ambitious goals, achieve results, are well-managed and improve efficiency.
  • Marines are trained to the highest level of readiness before deploying for military operations. They have consistently demonstrated the effectiveness of their training through their valient performance on the fields of combat.
  • The Marine Corps are adapting their training regimen to focus more on countering assymetric threats, which reflects changes in the global security environment. They have instituted a new capstone training exercise, Mojave Viper, that simulates counterinsurgency operations and prepares Marine Units for the kinds of encounters they can expect while deployed.

Improvement Plan

About Improvement Plans

We are taking the following actions to improve the performance of the program:

  • Continuing to maintain a high level of readiness for both deployed and non-deployed Marine units by adapting training methods with insights from lessons learned in Iraq and Afghanistan.
  • Modifying the measurement of Combat Ready Days to include deployed Marine units.
