Trade Adjustment Assistance for Farmers

The purpose of this program is to assist farmers and fishermen successfully adjust to import competition through the provision of technical assistance, cash payments (not to exceed $10,000) and eligibility for certain Department of Labor retraining benefits, including tuition reimbursements for up to two years.

About Improvement Plans

We are taking the following actions to improve the performance of the program:

  • Establishing ambitious performance targets.
  • Enhancing program results, by offering a second phase of Intensive Technical Assistance for producers who intend to modify their business practices to better compete with imports.
  • Conducting surveys to track program performance. Modifying basic training to adopt program participants' suggestions from the 2005/06 survey responses.
