Rating

What This Rating Means

PERFORMING
Moderately Effective

In general, a program rated Moderately Effective has set ambitious goals and is well-managed. Moderately Effective programs likely need to improve their efficiency or address other problems in the programs' design or management in order to achieve better results.
  • The program is effectively targeted to provide a "safety net" for removal of uncontrolled hazardous substances when other programs or responsible parties are unable to respond.
  • The program has acceptable output performance and efficiency measures in place that focus on the rate and cost effectiveness of completing removal actions. Outcome measures are currently not feasible.
  • The program would benefit from regular independent evaluations and a systematic strategic planning process that includes coordination with other Superfund and emergency response programs.

Improvement Plan

About Improvement Plans

We are taking the following actions to improve the performance of the program:

  • Developing measures to track the program's impact on human health and the environment.
  • Modernizing the program's data repository to ensure accurate and complete information on program performance and financial management.
  • Developing a plan for conducting, on a regular basis, independent evaluations of key areas of the program to determine program performance.
